Silgan Debuts Melodie Pirouette SNI 13 Pump for Refillable Molded Glass

Updated

Silgan Dispensing has launched a new version of its Melodie Pirouette SNI 13 pump, engineered for full compatibility with the first molded glass fragrance bottle featuring a 13 mm threaded screw neck, developed by Groupe Pochet. The collaboration targets refillable luxury fragrance formats, including on-the-go sizes, and a French patent application has been filed for the innovation.

The pairing addresses a structural gap in refillable packaging. Until now, brands seeking a complete range of refillable molded glass bottles had to compromise on either format or distinctive packaging design, according to Sandy Gregory, Marketing Director of the Fragrance division at Silgan.

"Until now, customers who wanted to develop a complete range of refillable molded glass bottles had to sacrifice either format or distinctive brand packaging. To overcome this limitation, we developed a new version of the Melodie Pirouette SNI 13 pump to support brands in their positioning and portable luxury offering," Gregory said in a statement.

The Technical Specification

At the core of the development sits the SNI 13 neck finish: a 13 mm threaded opening on a molded glass bottle, produced by Groupe Pochet. Silgan customized its Melodie Pirouette pump to screw onto that threaded finish, making the pump removable — a prerequisite for refilling. The system is designed to withstand frequent and repeated refills over time, which Silgan positions as a way for fragrance brands to sustain consumer engagement across the product lifecycle rather than at a single purchase point.

The Melodie Pirouette line belongs to Silgan's "Emotions of Spray" collection, a range of spray experiences intended to let consumers replicate the fragrance application experience whether at home or traveling. The pump's premium positioning is aimed at the luxury segment, where the tactile and visual qualities of the closure factor into perceived value.

Combined with Silgan's Replay Connector refill system, the threaded removable pump extends the company's portable fragrance refill portfolio beyond glass vials, the format that has dominated travel refills to date.

A Dual-Company Development

The innovation splits cleanly along each partner's expertise. Groupe Pochet, a glass packaging specialist, developed the molded glass bottle with the SNI 13 screw neck. Silgan then adapted its pump architecture to match that finish. The result, according to both companies, is a refillable solution that spans a full range of molded glass sizes — including the smaller formats suited to handbags and travel — without forcing brands into a standardized vial shape.

That format flexibility carries commercial weight for prestige fragrance houses. Molded glass allows a wide range of decorative options, and brands use that creative freedom to build shelf differentiation in a category where the bottle often carries as much identity as the juice itself. Glass packaging signals quality, luxury and authenticity to consumers, and molded glass reinforces that prestige, the companies note.

Why Refillability Is Moving Up the Agenda

The launch arrives as fragrance brands face mounting pressure on two fronts: sustainability expectations around packaging waste and the economics of consumer retention. A refillable system built on a durable, removable pump addresses both. The consumer keeps the primary bottle and closure; only the fragrance supply is replenished. For brands, each refill represents a repeat touchpoint — what Silgan describes as a lasting connection with the consumer.

The threaded architecture matters here. Screw-neck compatibility in a molded glass format, at a 13 mm size suited to portable bottles, had not previously been available in a refillable configuration at scale, per the companies. The French patent application signals that Silgan and Groupe Pochet intend to protect the neck-and-pump combination as proprietary territory.

For dermatology-adjacent and personal-care audiences, the development is a packaging story rather than a formulation one — but it illustrates how hardware design increasingly shapes premium product strategy. A pump that survives repeated removal and reinstallation changes the refill calculus for luxury SKUs, where closure failure has historically limited refillable formats to simple splash bottles or separate travel vials.

Trademark Positioning

Silgan® and Melodie Pirouette® are registered trademarks of Silgan Dispensing Systems Corporation. Replay™ is a trademark of the same entity. The company frames the Melodie Pirouette SNI 13 introduction as part of a broader push into what it calls portable luxury — customized, travel-compatible fragrance experiences built on refillable architecture.

Looking ahead, the patent-pending system gives fragrance houses a route to extend refillable lines across their full molded glass portfolios, from full-size bottles to pocket formats, and its adoption among prestige brands will test whether threaded-neck refillability becomes a category standard rather than a single-supplier option.
